Intensive Tourism Training Programme Course Description

Organization of national and international travel

An education that yields results– The tourism training programme consists of 12 courses, including an on-the- job training session. This complete 570-hour programme is given at an accelerated pace over five months. Thanks to its well-balanced structure and constantly updated curriculum, the travel course graduates will rapidly find employment in the various sectors of the travel industry.


A fully integrated tourism training programme –The courses offered are presented in four units

INFO-TECH UNIT

The how-tos… – A Acquire and develop the technical knowledge needed in today’s travel industry. These four courses will challenge you to go beyond the basics and to strive for more creative applications and solutions.

INTEGRATION New!
Learn the language of the two most popular reservation systems in the world, Apollo and Sabre, both operating in real-time, an exclusivity of Collège April-Fortier. Explore these two systems and learn how to build complete itineraries, including air, hotel and car reservations.

You will be introduced to a variety of proprietary software and web sites available only to travel professionals, designed to make reserving a packaged holiday or an a-la-carte vacation a very simple matter.

Learn to calculate various airfares, compare them, understand their tariff rules, and analyse them to ensure your client receives the right product. You will learn to determine the client’s travel insurance needs and to issue electronic travel insurance policies.

The Info-Tech unit also includes an understanding of PowerPoint, and how it can be used in making presentations. With this newly acquired knowledge, you are ready to enter the travel industry.

This series of courses, combining applications in geography with tourism and economic perspectives, will take you deep into the heart of all five continents.

TOURISM GEOGRAPHY
The world at your fingers tips - Evaluate the tourism potential of foreign destinations.

A two-step process.
The first will present you with the principles of geography, including relief, hydrography, demographics, economy, multiculturalism, religions, etc -- all from a tourism perspective.

The second step will explore the tourist attractions, often unknown, of our own country, Canada, as well as those of our giant neighbour to the south.

SUN DESTINATIONS
Going south!
Discover the most popular destinations down south, including Mexico and the Caribbean. Then continue to the far reaches of the Pacific Ocean to learn about French Polynesia, and onwards to the islands of the Indian Ocean.

3 sales courses geared to the travel industry.
The first course introduces you to the wonderful world of tourism, the players, and their products. It concludes with an understanding of the sales techniques used in the industry.

The second course will emphasise the niche markets that have been developed due to the ever-increasing need to specialise in the travel industry. Learn how to become an expert by selecting a niche from an endless list of speciality travel.

The final course gives you the tools required to design your own group departure and to market it.

TOURISM PRODUCTS & SERVICES
Learn about the different companies that make up Québec’s travel industry. Understand the interaction between retailer, wholesalers, airlines, and other travel suppliers. Discuss the re-inventing of this industry and the inevitable changes that are occurring daily.

What are the sales techniques used in this industry?

All this and more will be presented so you may understand the role of the travel industry.

Specialisation. The new buzz word of the travel industry. You will meet the players who have developed products to meet the needs of various niche markets. Learn how to build a niche market, and how to prosper in these ever-changing times.

DESIGN OF TOURISM PRODUCTS
If you build it, they will come!

In this third course, you will design your own group departure, selecting from an endless array of travel specialties. Learn how to bring together the various components that make up an organized tour. Learn the marketing principles used to sell this trip, including the proper use of the communication mix.
